Interview from Gaza: Dr. Tarek Loubani on the War’s Impact on Patients, Medics, and the Human Spirit
From the Front Lines | Democracy Now! | July 2025
Hosted by: Amy Goodman
In this harrowing and deeply human interview, Dr. Tarek Loubani, emergency physician and medical director of the Glia Project, joins Democracy Now! live from Nasser Hospital in Gaza, where he has been working since June 2024. Dr. Loubani shares a frontline view of the catastrophic conditions facing patients and medical staff as Israel’s siege and bombardment of Gaza continue.
He describes the unimaginable scale and nature of the injuries — from sniper wounds and mass bombings to the starvation now affecting 100% of Gaza’s population. He details attacks on aid seekers, the systematic targeting of medical workers, and the collapse of Gaza’s health infrastructure due to fuel and supply blockades. He also responds to Israel’s proposed “humanitarian cities,” calling them concentration camps in everything but name.
One of the most heart-wrenching elements of the conversation is his reflection on the now-common acronym: WCNSF – Wounded Child, No Surviving Family. Dr. Loubani shares the pain of caring for children who are not only critically injured but entirely alone.
This is a testimony of survival, solidarity, and moral clarity — and a must-listen for anyone seeking to understand the realities on the ground in Gaza today.
